Less than a week to Enfilade!

There is less than a week to go until Enfilade and I’m finishing up the paperwork needed for my games and getting everything ready to pack into the car for the trip.

This year Kevin and I are running two games together. The first is the Raid on San Carlos Falklands game using the Air War C21 rules. The Argentineans can pick from Daggers, Skyhawks, Canberras, and Pucaras while the Royal Navy Sea Harriers try to chase them off.

The second is the Illustrious must be Sunk! game using the (unpublished) Air War 1940 rules. You can see the reports from the playtests of this one in my previous blog posts.

Kevin is also running some Mad Wet Max games, which I may help out with. But I also will see if I can get into some games as a player.

There are a good number of naval and air games scattered throughout the rest of the Enfilade schedule. Some of the more interesting ones are:
  • Battle of Mobile Bay using Steam and Sail Navies rules and 1/600 scale ships. This will be played over two game periods. I’m looking forward to seeing all the ships and how the forts are represented. But I’ll be running the Falklands game during the second part of this one, so I don’t think I’ll get to play in this.
  • Escape from Mers el Kebir. There are two linked games covering this action. The first uses Check Your 6! to cover a Swordfish attack, escorted by Fulmars and intercepted by Hawk 75s. The second uses General Quarters 3 rules to cover the breakout of the French fleet. I’ll be running the Illustrious game when the naval game goes, so I’ll miss this one.
  • Operation Rheinubung using General Quarters 3. This sounds like the standard Bismarck breakout scenario, but the description also seems to give it an operational feel. I’ll be interested to see how the game presenter handles this, but this game is going on during the Falklands game.
  • India and China Go Toe to Toe using a development version of Harpoon Captain’s Edition 2.0. After I ran a game using the original (albeit slightly modified) version of Harpoon Captain's Edition last year, Andy Doty started working on a second edition of the rules. I'm looking forward to seeing what he has come up with.
Once Enfilade is over, I'll be drafted back into summertime yard work. But plans are in the works for a Malta air campaign. I came across some ideas for a campaign in Wargames Illustrated #198 (yes, that is an old issue from June 1998) and we are going to try that out this summer.

The next couple of posts should be photos from Enfilade.

  1. Marvelous. I wish that I could play, but once again I can not make it down there.

    Good luck!
